The General Assembly,
Recalling its previous resolutions on the question, including resolution 61/145 of 19 December 2006,
Reaffirming the commitments to gender equality and the advancement of women made at the Millennium Summit,3 the 2005 World Summit4 and other major United Nations summits, conferences and special sessions, and reaffirming also that their full, effective and accelerated implementation are integral to achieving the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals,
Reaffirming the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and in peacebuilding,
Noting with appreciation the report of the UN on mainstreaming a gender perspective into all policies and programmes of the United Nations system,

1.Calls upon all organizations of the United Nations system, within their organizational mandates, to mainstream a gender perspective and to pursue gender equality in their country programmes, planning instruments and sector-wide programmes and to articulate specific country-level goals and targets in this field in accordance with the national development strategies;

2.Calls upon Governments, the United Nations system and other international and non-governmental organizations, as well as all women and men, to fully commit themselves and to intensify their contributions to the full implementation by States of their obligations under all human rights instruments, especially the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women;

3.Reminds the respect for the rule of law, including legislation, and continued efforts to repeal laws and eradicate policies and practices that discriminate against women and girls, and to adopt laws and promote practices that protect their rights;

4.Calls upon Member States to continue to increase women’s representation and participation in government decision-making at all levels in development policy areas to ensure that the priorities, needs and contributions of women are taken into consideration by, inter alia, providing access to training; developing measures to reconcile family and professional responsibilities; and eliminating gender stereotyping in appointments and promotions;

5.Provides technical assistance to women, particularly in developing countries, to ensure the continuing promotion of human resources development and the development of environmentally sound technologies and of women’s entrepreneurship;

6.Recognizes the role of microfinance, including microcredit, in the eradication of poverty, the empowerment of women and the generation of employment, notes in this regard the importance of sound national financial systems, and encourages the strengthening of existing and emerging microcredit institutions and their capacities, including through the support of international financial institutions;

7.Emphasizes national health and social infrastructures to reinforce measures to promote women’s access to public health and taking action at the national level to address shortages of human resources for health, by, inter alia, developing, financing and implementing policies, within national development strategies, to improve training and management and effectively govern the recruitment, retention and deployment of health workers, including through international cooperation in this area.

Topic: International Cooperation Against Drug Abuse

The General Assembly,
Reaffirming its Resolution (A/RES/55/25 of 8 January 2001)which encourages governments to work with UN bodies aim at improving the coordination against drug abuse,
Noting with satisfaction the past efforts of various relevant UN bodies and nongovernmental organizations,
Stressing that drug abuse is related to global issues such as poverty, HIV/AIDS, terrorism, and illicit drug trafficking,

1.Encourages all relevant agencies of the United Nations to collaborate more closely with countries at the grassroots level to enhance the carrying out of relief efforts;

2.Urges member states to comply the goals of The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to streamline efforts of its work programs;

3.Requests that all nations develop deployment forces to better enhance coordination against drug abuse;

4.Calls for field-based technical cooperation projects to enhance the capacity of Member States to counteract illicit drugs, crime and terrorism;

5.Stresses the continuing need for the research and analytical work to increase impartial and objective information of drugs and crime issues and expand the evidence-base for policy and operational decisions;

6.Recommends normative work to assist states in the ratification and implementation of the international treaties, the development of domestic legislation on drugs, crime and terrorism, and the provision of secretariat and substantive services to the treaty-based and governing bodies;

7.Declares to make every effort to integrate and mainstream the gender perspective, particularly in its projects for prevention and the provision of alternative livelihoods, as well as those against human trafficking in all member states;

8.Calls upon states to respond quickly and generously to consolidated appeals to coordination against drug abuse;

9.Requests the assurance of post-conflict assistance through the construction and development.
